Good dental hygiene is the cornerstone of healthy teeth.

During your hygienist checkups/sessions, plaque build-up will be removed from your gum line. Regularly removing this damaging substance reduces the possibility of gum disease and the unpleasant associated symptoms that could otherwise result in tooth loss.

How hygienist visits can benefit you

  • Harmful plaque and tartar will be removed.
  • Your teeth will be polished and feel healthy again.
  • Staining is removed, leaving you with better-looking teeth.
  • Preventative care to avoid periodontal disease, future tooth loss, and other health issues such as heart disease.
  • Maintain your own teeth for as long as possible by attending routine hygienist cleanings.

We recommend visiting a hygienist regularly to remove bacterial plaque deposits and calculus, which can cause gum disease (Periodontal disease) and breath problems (Halitosis). Your hygienist will be able to recommend how often to come in based on your clinical needs and risk factors for gum disease. These factors include smoking, lifestyle, medical history, and age, which can influence how often you need to come in for a scale and polish clean.

Periodontal treatment at Priory House

We also have a Periodontist working at the practice who has completed years of additional training in gum disease-related stabilisation, prevention, and management. A periodontist is responsible for carrying out more advanced gum treatments that will reverse the symptoms and damage caused by gum disease. Our hygienists will help maintain good oral and gum health and demonstrate to patients the correct oral hygiene regime, which can reduce your risk of needing gum disease treatment from a periodontist.

FAQs

How can I maintain good oral hygiene at home?

Good oral hygiene starts with a good at-home routine. By brushing twice a day for two minutes, and flossing after each meal, you can feel confident that you are taking good steps to protect your mouth from disease and decay. You should use fluoride toothpaste, which fortifies tooth enamel and reduces the amount of acid that the bacteria on your teeth produce.

How Much Is a Routine Hygienist Appointment at Priory House Dental?
